What is CTE

Career and Technical Education (CTE) promotes learning relevance for students of all ages. It provides the academic and technical skills as well as the knowledge and training needed for today’s students to succeed in tomorrow’s career. CTE prepares today’s students for the ever changing workforce by introducing them to workplace competencies. What’s more, it makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context.

Foundation to Temple ISD’s CTE programs are;

  • Rigorous academic skills and the ability to apply those skills to concrete situations in order to function in the workplace and in daily routine activities.
  • Relevant employability skills such as critical thinking and personal responsibility – common skills necessary to succeed in any career area.
  • Job specific, technical skills related to specific career pathways.

Within CTE, career specialties are grouped into 16 Career Clusters®. Each of these 16 clusters is identified by a common set of knowledge and skills that prepares students for a range of workforce opportunities. Additional specialization is achieved through comprehensive Programs of Study aligning academic and technical content in a coordinated, non-duplicative sequence of secondary and postsecondary courses, often leading to an industry-recognized license or certification, or an associate or baccalaureate degree at the post-secondary level.

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are an integral part of CTE. CTSOs enhance the academic and technical curriculum, knowledge and skills students learn in their courses. Participation in CTSOs provides students with opportunities to develop leadership abilities, practice teamwork, understand and implement time management, use interpersonal skills, build and improve self-esteem and establish a sense of accomplishment.
