CTE Teacher Balances Work and Motherhood
Temple high school teacher and mother Elizabeth Maybin has 5 children under the age of 4 years old.
Before that, she started as a mother with 3 step children, Madison, Mallory, and Camden.
She has 4-year-old twins Brock and Kellen with her husband Russell Maybin who also teaches middle school.
Their triplets Harrison, Brindley, and Tatum came last fall. They are now 8 months old.
“There are some mornings where we are like, well, everybody is alive,” Elizabeth Maybin said.
Russell refers to their daily routine as “Livin’ la vida loca.”
Still Elizabeth has always been career oriented since her days as an athletic trainer.
Teaching now in the Career & Technical Education Center at Temple High School has let her have the best of both worlds with motherhood and work.
“You can do anything that you want to do,” she said. “If you want to have a career and family you can do it but you need to be 100 percent both ways.”
Even though her strategy faces many challenges, she said there is no doubt that it is all worth it.
“These boys run up to me and they say mommy, I love you, or they do something new that you taught them,” Elizabeth said.
She said much of her and Russell’s inspiration comes from their own mothers.
“I didn’t really draw it up this way but you know it’s okay,” Elizabeth said. “It’s fun to be able to take on the role that has been given to me and just go with it.”
